Overview

Centaurus is an international English language journal of the history of science and its cultural aspects. The journal was started in 1950 and has remained one of the major journals devoted to the study of the history of science.

Centaurus offers short decision times (we reduced the time to 3 weeks in average), quality double-blind peer review, a mentor program helping new scholars to publish internationally, and global access to your publications (more than 12500 institutions offer access to Centaurus worldwide).

Authors are welcome to submit any original manuscript that fits the aims and scope of Centaurus. There is no strict word limit and first submissions do not yet need to be prepared in accordance with the Author Guidelines. You can easily submit an article online here.

Aims and Scope

Centaurus publishes an international spectrum of original research papers, survey articles, and other academic content on the history of science in the broadest sense, including mathematics, medicine, biomedical sciences, earth sciences, social sciences, humanities and technology, and their social and cultural aspects. We also invite contributions that build a bridge between history of science and other disciplines. Book notices, book reviews and essay reviews of publications within the journal’s scope are commissioned to experts. The Editor encourages suggestions for special issues, short papers on topics of current interest and articles suited to open peer commentary along with a list of potential commentators.

Have a look at our recent issues, which include a special issue on the latest research on Jean Le Rond D’Alembert (1717–1783) and a special issue on The promises of science !

Book Review Proposals

Centaurus encourages publishers to send proposals for books to be reviewed in the journal to the Book Review Editors. Centaurus is interested in all proposals that fit the scope of the journal, i.e. books relevant to the history of science and its social and cultural aspects, taken in the broadest sense, including the history of mathematics, medicine, biomedical science, earth science, social sciences, humanities and technology. The journal has a special focus on books that are relevant to the history of science published in Europe, and may be published in any European language. As such, it contributes to the mission of the ESHS to promote European research and cooperation in the field of the history of science.

Contact Book Review Editor Mihnea Dobre if you would like to propose a book for review.
