The symposium will explore whether hope, which was linked to the Noosphere concept in the 20th century, can be regained. This idea has fluctuated in popularity, having been a founding principle of the UN but also intertwined with reactionary political ideologies such as Russian Euroasiatism. In the symposium, I would like to ask to what extent a reconstruction of the history of the concept of the Noosphere will help us in designing the future, that is, in sketching the extent to which it is possible to plan and govern on the planetary scale embodied in such utopian visions as solar communism.
